The Song That Burned an Already Beaten Down Fan Base

So maybe you were won of the 120,000 people who visited Minute Maid Park over the weekend.  Obviously the Boston Red Sox are incredibly popular, or uncontrollably "bandwagon-able".  The Red Sox Nation dominated the stadium with "Let's Go Red Sox" and "Yankees Suck" chants all weekend long.  A stadium that has been freaking empty all year long finally had a little electricity in it.  Both Friday and Sunday's games were competitive for a time and made for great interaction between the two fan bases.

Apparently the fact that the Astros bullpen melted down twice and that JA Happ is garbage doesn't bother the fans. Neither does the strikeout or walk differential on Sunday. (The Astros struckout 14 times while their pitchers walked TEN Sox.) No the straw that broke the camel's back was that the Astros"Dared" to play the Neil Diamond song "Sweet Caroline" during the Kiss Cam.

You see in the middle of the 8th inning of Red Sox games, the crowd joins in the singing of Sweet Caroline.

The Astros entertainment crew decided to play the song in the middle of the 4th inning when the kiss cam was underway. There were two diehard Astros fans next to me that LOVED that song and were into it like most Red Sox fans are/were. I tuned into the 10th inning show on NewsTalk740 KTRH and the 1st 2 callers to the show said the Astros management had let down their fans by playing "Boston's song".

Really?? Is this what it's come to Houston? You're more concerned about game ops and between inning entertainment than your crappy bullpen and pathetic lineup?  That's just like Texans fans being more concerned about a bad tailgating policy than their historically bad defense.

In conclusion, Sweet Caroline is an awesome song that is played at tons of sporting events.  It is NOT a slight of Astros fans to play the song during kiss cam.  One more thing, I don't blame Astros fans for not buying tickets for this bad team, but don't get upset when you're overrun by the opposition.  You have access to the tickets as much as everyone else.
