A Sports Salute To REM

REM hung up their guitars and drums after 31 years today.

I always liked REM though I think of their music as depressing rather than hopeful.  In that vain, here are a group of Houston Sports moments that would fit well with the song above.

John Stockton's infamous "Dagger 3" to win the 1997 Western Conference Finals over the Rockets. The worst part is when Bill Walton says "Uh oh" as he realizes Stockton has been left wide open.

Bills 41 Oilers 38: No Explanation Neccessary

Lorenzo Charles...Still a Punch to the Nuts after all these years.

Joe Montana leads a 22 point comeback with a fever to beat UH in the 1979 Cotton Bowl.

September 12th, 1991 at the Orange Bowl in Miami Some say this was the day that the Houston Cougar Football Program as we knew it died. David Klingler had been on the cover of Sports Illustrated's College Football Issue throwing a stick of dynamite. UH was #10 in the country, Miami was #2 and the Cougars were absolutely exposed as frauds under John Jenkins. UH would get blown out by the Canes and finish 4-7 while Miami went on to win the National Title.

1986 NLCS Astros vs The Mets...Orosco strikes out Bass...you know the rest.

These are just a few Houston area "Everybody Hurts" moments. Which moments in sports would you add to your "Everybody Hurts" list?
