Carmel Hotels 2010

Carmel California had its beginning as a seaside artists' colony. Its real name is Carmel by the Sea, but most people refer to it as Carmel. In the past as well as in the present, Carmel has attracted luminaries such as Robinson Jeffers, Sinclair Lewis, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Ansel Adams, Clint Eastwood, Eric Berne, James Elroy and Robert Heinlein. Many of these celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and Doris Day have been responsible for increasing tourist interest in Carmel. As a result, a significant number of Carmel California hotels have been built in the past two decades.
Carmel California combines the quaint with the dynamic. The dramatic waves hit the shore and lead you to a popular, picturesque village.
At one time, the residents of Carmel California did not believe in street numbers. They also did not like the idea of street lighting. Thus, all of the residents carried lanterns at night. Carmel has still maintained some of its quaint atmosphere, but on a much larger scale. You can still stroll through a labyrinth of hidden courtyards and enjoy the award winning gardens. Today, Carmel California hotels continue to identify their location by the cross streets. However, these might be the only the only salutations to the bohemian Carmel of yesterday.
