Kevin McHale Rockets Head Coach

So Kevin McHale was finally hired as head coach of your Houston Rockets.  I know 90% of you are going to crap on this hire.  The truth is none of us no how good Kevin McHale will do as a head coach.  His interim stints with the Minnesota T-Wolves were exactly that...interim stints.  He was a below average GM who set the T-Wolves franchise back when they had to forfeit five 1st round draft picks.  If the Rockets were hiring their head coach based soley on "coaching skins" on the wall, than Lawrence Frank would have been the right guy.

Les Alexander and Daryl Morey are sold on Kevin McHale, and that's good enough for me.  Les has hired 2 coaches (JVG, Adelman) and 1 GM (Morey) since he took over the club in 1994.  I think Les Alexander has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Just in case you forgot about Kevin McHale's playing career...

Are you willing to give Les and Daryl the benefit of the doubt on the McHale hire or do you think this is doomed to failure?

All American Women in Uniform

Another thing that makes America great...chicks in uniform.  While I can't confirm whether or not these women are soldiers, I would gladly welcome them to lay down in my foxhole!

A New Hunsicker?

Good news Houston. There's another Hunsicker for you to mispronounce!  This one is a Hunziker and much hotter.  I bet she also would do a better job than Ed Wade as Astros GM.

NBA Fan Contract

The Golden State Warriors have adopted a fan contract for their 2012 Season Ticket

1. The Warriors will make the 2012 playoffs. If they do not, ticket prices will not be increased for the 2012-13 season.

2. The Warriors will send a player to the 2012 All-Star Game. If they do not, all season-ticket holders will receive an autographed piece of All-Star merchandise, and be entered into a drawing for an all-expenses paid trip for two to the All-Star Game in Orlando.

3. The Warriors will win 25 or more home games. If they do not, all season-ticket holders will be invited to an exclusive two-hour autograph session at Oracle Arena with the entire team.

4. The Warriors will honor a risk-free renewal, with a 5% interest guarantee option for the 2011-12 season. That policy will be guaranteed with a 25% deposit payment.

Would you like to see any of the Houston teams adopt something similar?  Would you be more likely to buy tickets under these terms?

Joakim Noah expressing his "freedom of speech"

Bulls Center Joakim Noah making friends and influencing people in the 1st quarter of game 3.  How do I know David Stern is going to make a big deal out of this again.  The language in the video is NSFW.  When Joakim Noah gets fined, I want David Stern to be clear that if Noah had just called the fan an "A*****" that would have been ok.

Do you have a problem with Noah reacting to a heckler?  Are there any words that should be off limits?

Macho Forever

The "Macho Man" Randy Savage is only dead if we believe it....Let him live on in pictures....Like These....

Which one of these Macho-isms is your favorite?

Wandy Rodriguez vs Cliff Lee

Here's an interesting note from Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/tom_verducci/05/20/interleague.wandy.rodriguez/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_wr_a5

Look at the numbers that the Astros Wandy Rodriguez has put up in comparison to the great Cliff Lee. Following his win over Toronto on Sunday Wandy now has as many wins as Cliff Lee over the last three seasons with an identical 3.28ERA. Wandy is making $11million a year. Cliff Lee is making $24 million a year. If you were the Astros, would you keep Wandy for the entirety of his contract, or use him to jumpstart your minor league rebuilding contract? What do you think?

Randy Macho Man Savage 1953-2011

RIP Randy "Macho Man" Savage, dead at the age of 58 following a 1 car accident on Friday morning. I feel like a small part of my childhood went with him. The video above was the 1st time Savage won the WWF Heavyweight Title.

Here's where the Macho Man 1st introduced the lovely Miss Elizabeth as his manager. The two would later marry in real life. Elizabeth died of a drug overdose in 2002.

One of the great feuds in WWF history between Randy Savage and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. This culminated in their match at Wrestlemania III which some have called the greatest match of all time.

Randy Savage then began a friendship with Hulk Hogan that led to an infamous tag-team match against Andre The Giant and Ted Dibiase. The two friends would eventually feud leading into the main event of Wrestlemania V.

Savage would dump Elizabeth for Sensational Sherri as his new manager and continue a feud with both Hulk Hogan and eventually The Ultimate Warrior leading to this retirement match. Savage would lose the match, but be reunited with Miss Elizabeth.

Machoman's retirement (as was often the case in WWF) would be short lived and he would return. Savage's last great match with the WWF was a title shot at "The Nature Boy" Rick Flair at Wrestlemania 8.

I'll admit that I'm not as into wrestling as I once was. Randy Savage though was a hero. I can remember my friends and I taking turns jumping off the furniture to pummel each other with the flying elbow. Rest in Peace Macho Man, you will be sorely missed. Do you have a favorite Savage memory or is there another wrestler that reminds you most of your childhood?

Low-Fat Cheesecake

Ingredients
9 whole low-fat cinnamon graham crackers, broken in half
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Cooking spray
2 8-ounce packages Neufchatel cream cheese, softened
2 8-ounce packages fat-free cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2 large eggs plus 3 egg whites
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
Assorted toppings

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Pulse the graham crackers in a food processor until crumbled. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons water and the butter; pulse until moistened. Wrap the outside of a 9-inch springform pan with foil to prevent leaks. Coat the inside of the pan with cooking spray and press the crumbs onto the bottom. Bake until browned, about 8 minutes. Let cool, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, beat both cream cheeses and the sugar with a mixer on medium-high speed until smooth, 5 minutes, then beat in the sour cream on low. Lightly whisk the 3 egg whites in a bowl, then add to the cheese mixture along with the 2 whole eggs, flour, vanilla and lemon zest. Beat on medium speed until fluffy, 3 minutes. Pour over the crust.

Place the cheesecake in a roasting pan and add enough warm water to come one-quarter of the way up the sides of the springform. Bake until the cake is set but the center still jiggles, about 1 hour 10 minutes. Turn off the oven; keep the cheesecake inside with the door closed for 20 minutes.

Remove the cake from the water bath and transfer to a rack. Run a knife around the edge, then cool completely. Chill until firm, at least 8 hours. Top as desired.

Whole-and-Hearty Asparagus Pizza

Ingredients
1/2 lb fresh asparagus
Kosher salt to taste
Freshly ground pepper to taste
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 large sweet onion
4 tbsp butter, divided
1/2 lb mushrooms
Whole wheat or white pizza dough
Olive oil
5 slices bacon, cooked and cut into small pieces (optional)
6 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
3 tbsp grated or shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese

Method
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Spread fresh asparagus on baking sheet with sides.

Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground pepper.

Drizzle lightly with olive oil.

Mix well, using hands. Spread out in single layer.

Bake 10 minutes.

While asparagus is roasting, slice sweet onion thinly and saute in 1 tbsp of butter until caramelized, about 10 minutes, then set aside.

Slice mushrooms; saute in 1 tbsp of the butter until they give up their liquid and are browned, about 10 minutes; set aside.

Prepare the pizza dough by rolling out on a floured surface, transfer to pizza baking sheet brushed lightly with a little olive oil, and brush dough lightly with more olive oil.

Cut cooled asparagus into 1-2 inch pieces.

Layer ingredients onto dough in this order: caramelized onions, bacon pieces, mushrooms, asparagus (in a pinwheel arrangement, if desired), mozzarella and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until dough is crusty and browned on edges, and cheese has melted. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes before serving.

Bernard Hopkins/Donovan McNabb

Bernard Hopkins thinks Donovan McNabb isn't black enough?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6526881

"Forget this," Hopkins said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, and pointed to his own skin. "He's got a suntan. That's all."

According to Hopkins, McNabb had a privileged upbringing in Chicago and isn't as tough as himself, current Eagles quarterback Michael Vick or Cincinnati Bengals receiver Terrell Owens, who famously had a falling out with McNabb before being released by Philadelphia in 2006. Hopkins said Tuesday that McNabb and Owens essentially didn't speak the same language.

"T.O. got [into] the boardroom and saw the way they talked to McNabb. Coming from where he [came from] -- that's strange to some white people, when a black man speaks," Hopkins said, according to the Daily News. He said Owens "[wasn't] used to this language. [He's] used to speaking up.' "

Hopkins said that is why McNabb felt a sense of betrayal when he was traded by the Eagles to the Redskins before last season.

"Why do you think McNabb felt he was betrayed? Because McNabb is the guy in the house, while everybody else is on the field. He's the one who got the extra coat. The extra servings. 'You're our boy,' " Hopkins said, according to the Daily News, and patted a member of the media on the back to illustrate his point. "He thought he was one of them."

Tell me why this isn't racist.  Is Bernard saying that a successful black man who happens to work with white guys is selling out his race?  Ok, I'll take social advice from the guy who spent time in prison.

1 large carrot, shredded (about 2 cups)
3 scallions, trimmed and thinly sliced, greens included (about 1/2 cup)
1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts
1 (11-ounce) can Mandarin oranges in water, drained
1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons chili-garlic sauce or chili sauce
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

The NFL's Top Owners

ESPN decided to rank the 32 owners in the NFL.  The Rooney family which owns the Pittsburgh Steelers finished #1.  Strangely a few writers put Texans owner Bob McNair in the top 10.  Peruse the list yourself and make your own opinions on the accuracy of the list.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/28755/power-rankings-top-10-nfl-owners

I can't think of a reason to put Bob McNair in the top 10 given the record of his franchise over 9 years, but it's not like I have a close working relationship with the other owners to say why 1 guy is the 7th best or 8th best.  I think it's safe to say that if your team's winning % is .382 you can't be very good owner over a 9 year period.  Your thoughts?
