The Texans offense had an explosive afternoon Sunday beating the Jaguars 27-17 to finish the season at 6-10. The game action was secondary. Most of the post game discussion involved the future of head coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak went out of his way to say he has NOT been told he is back next season.
Here are the highlights of Gary Kubiak's Postgame press conference....
No matter who the head coach is next season, they will need to figure out whether they want to bring back free agent to be Owen Daniels. He appears to be back in Pro Bowl form and both he and Gary Kubiak said they would like OD to be back in a Texans uniform next season.
Andre Johnson also had his coach's back after the game and would not bite on my question about whether the team missed Dunta Robinson and Jacque Reeves.
Finally, Texans C Chris Myers (who had his best season as a pro) reflected on the future of the team and the uncertainty of the NFL off season with no collective bargaining agreement.
Here are Five Decisions Worse than Bob McNair bringing back Gary Kubiak for another season.
1. Caddy Shack II: Take one of the great comedies of all time, replace Rodney Dangerfield with Jackie Mason, and you get this craptastic motion picture.
2. The WNBA: The NBA seemed to think there was a void in the summertime for really bad basketball. 10+ years later, the league hemmoraghes money but David Stern is unwilling to pull the plug on his biggest mistake.
3. The marriage of John Lennon and Yoko Ono: pretty much ruined the greatest band of all time. So yeah, compared to Bob McNair ruining a bad football franchise, I guess Texans fans should not complain.
4. Portland Trailblazers Select Center Busts over Future Hall of Famers....TWICE!! Bowie/Oden...or Jordan/Durant...you make the call...
5. Garth Brooks last album/alter ego Chris Gaines: He hosted SNL and played music as the ill fated Chris Gaines. The CD sales were awful. The movie was never made. Brooks pretty much quit making music after this disaster.
Because it's never to early to talk about next season, here's the Texans 2011 Schedule.
Home: Indy, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Oakland, Atlanta, Carolina
Road: Indy, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Baltimore, Cincy, Miami, New Orleans, Tampa
I bet your New Year's Day went better than that of the Big 10 Conference. The Big 10 went 0-5 in bowl games getting outscored 214-102. Yes, they were underdogs in all 5 games, but they were largely non-competitive in three of them. (Mich, Mich St, Northwestern) When you factor in Nebraska's no-show in the Holiday Bowl, it is going to be hard for the conference to salvage it's national reputation. Even a Ohio State win over Arkansas is not going to do much to help them. Perhaps they conference should change it's division names from "Leaders" and Legends" to "Bad" and "Worse".
