Texans DL/LB Free Agents, Jeff Bagwell HOF Results, Rich Rod Gets the Ziggy, Happy B-Day Winnie Cooper

True or False: This is Gary Kubiak's real hair in 1978. mattandadam@sports790.com

Operating under the assumption that the Texans will move to a 3-4 defense under assumed DC Wade Phillips, here is a look at potential free agents on the DL/LB who could help the Texans.

DE:

Marcus Spears (Dallas): Spears fell out of favor in Dallas this year, but he would be a more ideal fit as a 3-4 DE than anyone the Texans have.  Wade Phillips familiarity with he and Kevin Hatcher might make them candidates to be signed.

Nose Tackle:

Haloti Ngata(Baltimore):  Arguably the top DL in the game today, Ngata will command the richest contract in the NFL.  In a worst case scenario, the Ravens would probably put a franchise tag on him.  It's tough to imagine the Texans giving up two 1st round picks for anyone.  File this one under slim and none.

Aubrayo Franklin (San Francisco):  Franklin will be 31 in August and has signed a 1 year franchise deal with San Francisco the last two seasons.  The 49ers might not bother this time around, or he could be available through trade.

Shaun Rogers: (Browns): Probably the best fit in terms of someone who would want to be in Houston.  He has tried to get out of Cleveland for quite some time.  Rogers is versatile enough to play DE or DT in 3-4.

OLB:

LaMarr Woodley (Pittsburgh):  The Steelers are already paying James Harrison, Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, and Troy Polamalu big time $$$.  It seems to reason that they might balk at a big contract for Woodley who had 9.5 sacks this season.

Kamerion Wimbley: (Raiders)  The Raiders stole Wimbley for a 5th round draft pick in 2010 and he did not dissapoint.  He's fairly one dimensional, but he can get after the QB. (9.5 sacks in 2010)

Tamba Hali: (Chiefs)  The best pass rusher on the market, the Chiefs would be expected to franchise him at a minimum if not sign him to a long term deal.  Hali had 14.5 sacks this season.

ILB:

David Harris: (Jets) Solid but not spectacular, it seems that Harris might be someone that the Jets would not overpay to keep.  He's more of a glue guy than a star but would fit the Texans need for a solid 4th starter at the LB position.

Stephen Cooper/Brandon Siler/Kevin Burnett (Chargers):  The Chargers are only keeping two of these guys and they will likely have to waste the franchise tag on WR Vincent Jackson again.  Burnett played for Phillips in Dallas.  Cooper played for Phillips in San Diego.

The Baseball Hall of Fame voting results will be announced today.  I expect Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven to be elected.  If ESPN's baseball hall of famer voters are any indication of the general Hall of Fame voting population, Jeff Bagwell is not going to come close to getting elected this year.  Bagwell scored 8 of the 18 votes ranking behind Robert Alomar (17), Bert Blyleven (14), Barry Larkin (10), Jack Morris (10), and Lee Smith (9).  Andy Stanton a HOF voter who works for ESPN did not vote for Bagwell or Roberto Alomar, but did vote for Don Mattingly, Tino Martinez, and get this BJ Surhoff!!  Voting for Surhoff is the equivalent of me voting for Jose Cruz.  They basicly had identical statistics.  IMHO if you vote for Surhoff or Jim Deshaies (I'm looking at you guy down the dial) you should lose your vote and be put in a straight jacket.

Michigan will probably fire its head coach Rich Rodriguez Wednesday afternoon.  I managed to secretly record a transcript of the final conversation between Rodriguez and his now former AD Dave Brandon.

I missed Winnie Cooper (aka Danica McKellar's) 35th Birthday yesterday.  I'll make up for it now!
